also, he played shows in 1976 with this guitar

1977 Travis Bean TB500 Owned By Jerry Garcia "The Enemy is Listening" - Original and genuine Travis Bean TB500 from 1976 serial number 12.

from 1976...so it's a 1976 guitar...why do they keep calling it a 1977 guitar?

whatever, it's minutea and i'm an asshole...

The Dozin site gear area has a nice timeline of Jerry's gear that correctly dates it's use in '76. In fact it shows a Travis Bean 1000A that Garcia used in 75. I recall a 75 JGB show where he played the Bean through a pair of Fender Twin Reverbs stacked vertically on top of each other, which I never saw him use again.

Given that Garcia probably put in more time on a Travis Bean than any other guitar in the 70's it's no wonder he came out smoking in 77.

Silly me - I thought "Rosebud" was a sled from his childhood.

Great link/overview of Jer's guitars.

Honest mistake. Not too much snow in San Francisco, so he didn't have a sled. He did have a bike called Charles Foster Kane, though.

If I'm not mistaken, the only product endorsement he ever did was for Travis Bean. And I could be mistaken at that. What was that YouTube thing the other day with him and David Nelson doing a Levi's jingle? But I think he said something to the effect that Travis Bean was "the best goddamned production line guitar made."

Come to think of it, I got Weir to autograph a promotional poster for Martin Guitars-maybe it was Martin-that was a picture of him and Jerry posing with a couple of choice models (guitar models, not babes in bikinis).

Were the guitars in bikinis? Pant, pant, pant...

No, but on the back, toward the bottom, below the inward curves in the bodies of the guitars, there were custom painted buttcracks.
